Aquatic Dance

My loyal class members from Bally Total Fitness in DeWitt, New York relax after a one-hour class.

Looking for an exercise program that is fun and effective? Why not try aquatic dance? Read on...

Ten years ago, I was 60 lbs. overweight and totally disgusted with myself. I tried diets, walking, and finally, in desparation, I joined a gym. After a few weeks of attempting to keep up in aerobics classes and floundering around on various pieces of equipment, I decided to try a water aerobics class. I was surprised at how effective this workout was. I continued in the class and began participating three or four times a week. Gradually, I began to lose weight. More importantly, I was toning up and developing muscles and core strength.

In 2000, I was approached by one of the instructors and asked whether I might be interested in training to become an instructor. I jumped at the chance. With her help, I began leading groups. In July 2000, I took my AEA (Aquatic Exercise Association) instructor certification class and passed. I began teaching at the club. In October 2002, I added a couple of classes for a local school district.

Over the years, I have developed a program that I call Aquatic Dance. I combine strength training, cardio and toning in a fun hour-long workout set to the beat of my favorite disco and funk tunes! I work all the major muscle groups and stress repetition. Participants are surprised by how quickly the hour passes and really seem to enjoy my class.
